DEBORAH STRONG
AFCA

portrait information & pricing

Deborah welcomes the opportunity to create portraits of all types of animals, large or small, fluffy or sleek, and at all stages of their lives. An artist's eye can see what the camera often misses, making a portrait a special piece of art that has lasting value.

Reference photographs
There's no way your animal will hold a pose for as long as it takes to complete his/her portrait, so photographs are an important part of the process. If you live nearby Deborah's studio in Langley, BC, she welcomes the opportunity to meet and photograph your animal. She also works with many long-distance clients as well as with those whose animals have passed on. If photographing your animal is no longer an option, don't be too concerned if the existing photos are not the best quality. As long as they show the appearance, markings, and other key characteristics, Deborah can bring your animal to life on paper!

Tell your animal's story
In situations where meeting the animal is not possible, Deborah asks you to tell his or her story. By learning about your animal, she will be better able to infuse the portrait with personality. Telling a bit about your animal's story, including his/her history, habits and quirks, takes only a few minutes and can be done by email, phone or in person. This information is invaluable for a portrait that truly captures your animal's spirit.

Pricing
Portrait prices start at $350 and increase depending on the size and complexity. Like most services, pricing is based on the time involved to create the portrait so additional charges apply to portraits that include multiple animals, detailed backgrounds, or other complex elements. Please contact Deborah and she will be pleased to provide a price quote.

About the materials
Most of the portraits Deborah creates are in coloured pencil which are wax-based pencils with rich colour pigments that withstand the test of time. The surface she works is illustration board - a sturdy, archival, paper-based product. The result is a highly detailed and lifelike piece of art. She also works in graphite (lead pencil) and can even create a portrait in hand-painted silk for those seeking something colourful, a little bit whimsical, and slightly out of the ordinary.

Framing
If you'd like your portrait framed, Deborah offers expert framing services using archival materials at reasonable prices.

Shipping
Deborah works with many out-of-town clients. Secure shipping can easily be arranged to your location.
